Perspectives Invitation and News from Kirra Galleries
Perspectives: Interior-Exterior Download the Perspectives exhibition opening invitation in pdf format. This contemplative yet vibrant exhibition features seven of Australia’s finest glass makers using a variety of techniques to express the title Perspectives – Interior Exterior.
This is a milestone exhibition for Kirra Galleries. We opened the doors of our original 37 square metre gallery space at Southgate in December 1997, and our first tentative exhibition was held on 1 June 1998. We have since held another 98 exhibitions as the Gallery steadily grew and became more and more prominent in the world of Australian Art Glass.
None of our growth and expansion would have happened without the steadfast work of our Gallery team, the support of our valued clients such as you, and the combined talents of all the artists whom we have had the privilege of representing.
We have seen an explosion of artistic talent since our first exhibition and we are proud to be able to say that “we have been there” when so many emerging artists participated in their first commercial exhibition. Since those now remote days we have made 9 trips to the United States and can claim to have introduced the work of a number of Australian Artists to that country.
Thus, our next exhibition, will be our 100th. It promises to be acontemplative, yet vibrant one featuring seven of Australia’s finest glass makers using a variety of techniques to express the title Perspectives : Interior-Exterior.
The work featured explores personal spaces both within us and the places that hold meaning in our lives.
The result is a collection of sculptural works and panels that draw the viewer into the mind’s eye of the artist and take us on a journey through evocative imagery and timeless landscapes.
We ask you to please join us for a celebratory opening of “Perspectives: Interior-Exterior” on Thursday 2 May 2013 at 6.00pm and help us commemorate our 100th exhibition, view the work and meet some of the eminent artists
Amanda was the first Glass Artist exhibited at Kirra Galleries when we opened in December 1997 and our association continues until this day.
Amanda has been working with hot glass since completing her Bachelor of Art, Ceramic Design (Major in Hot Glass) at Chisholm Institute of Technology in 1983 (now Monash University).
Her main focus is in decoration but she continues to blow and form her own glass. Forming her own glass allows her to make pieces to a preconceived colour and shape. The next step in her design process is to mask the surface of the glass with tape and draw on the design. The tape is then cut, areas removed and the piece is sandblasted. This process is often repeated several times to achieve depth and intricacy. Occasionally hand engraving is used to add detail to the design. Designs are chosen to complement the shape of the plates, bowls, cylinders and spheres and her decoration encompasses many themes including frogs, seahorses and insects, but is mainly botanically oriented with an emphasis on Australian Flora.
Amanda’s work is distinctly Australian and many of her pieces have been purchased as gifts destined for international clients and as presentations for visiting dignitaries. Amanda has exhibited in many group shows and solo exhibitions and her pieces are now included in many private collections in Australia and overseas and her work is in the Modern Glass Collection of the Hamilton Regional Gallery in Victoria.
