Kirra Galleries opened in 1997 and for more than a decade now, have focused on building the finest commercial exhibition galleries focussing on glass, sculpture and jewellery artworks in Australia. They now have an established reputation as leaders in the Australian Contemporary Art Glass Movement.
Kirra Galleries hold a number of exhibitions each year highlighting the incredible diversity of Australian art glass as well as works by artists working in a variety of different media.
After months of planning by Kirra Galleries, Federation Square and the selected finalists as well as days setting up, the inaugural Kirra Illuminating Glass Award was officially opened by Robyn Archer AO and the winner of the KIGA $15,000 award was presented to Robert Wynne by the Victorian Minister for the Arts, Heidi Victoria, for his beautiful piece, "Raven's Clutch".
The Minister for the Arts, The Hon. Heidi Victoria, presented Robert with a beautiful trophy made by Kristin McFarlane and a cheque for $15,000.

The judges had a very difficult task selecting the winner as the standard of entries was extremely high. The gallery was closed between 4pm and 6pm on opening day so that the judges; Robyn Archer AO, Grace Cochrane AM, Kate Brennan, Mathew Martin and Peter Kolliner OAM could make their selection.
The judges gave a special mention to Roger Buddle for his piece " Forest Fungi", Holly Grace for "Shelter-Horse Camp Hut", and Jason Sims for "Rise and fall II".

We would like to congratulate Rob on his win, but also thank all the finalists - it is a stunning display of internally lit glass sculptures. If you visit Fed Square during the next few weeks, please call in and enjoy the warmth and ambiance of the exhibition.
There is also a People's Choice Award which will be announced on 17 June 2014 - please vote either online at www.fedsquare.com/KIGAvote or at Kirra Galleries. When you cast your vote, you will be in entered into the draw to win a Gift Voucher to the value of $250 from Kirra Galleries.
