Kirra Galleries News and Exhibition Program 2015

Kirra Galleries News
Dear Gallery Blog
This is our first newsletter for the year and we would like to take this opportunity to wish you a wonderful new year and look forward to seeing you throughout 2015.
Kirra Galleries is celebrating another milestone this year - 18 years exhibiting and supporting Australian, and more recently New Zealand glass artists, and we have a great calendar of exhibitions in 2015 (see below) which will showcase a variety of different forms of glass making.

Save the Date
The first exhibition for 2015 will open on Thursday 26 February 2015 - SHARED INSPIRATIONS - featuring the works of Internationally renowned glass artists Evelyn Dunstan and Emma Varga.
Emma and Evelyn both share a passion for nature and documenting the intricate detail and myriad of patterns and colour found in plants and flowers, from exotic tropical flora to vines and weeds peering through cracks at the end of the garden.
The exhibition "Shared Inspirations" highlights this passion using images from their vast libraries of photographs to create a collection of inspirational and evocative glass sculptures and panels reflecting their individual style and remarkable skills as well as a poetic sense of artistry.

KIGA 2015
In 2014 together with Fed Square, Kirra launched the inaugural KIGA (Kirra Illuminating Glass Award).
We received an amazing 92 entries which were shortlisted to 40 and the winner of the 2014 was Robert Wynne with his piece, Raven's Clutch.
We are thrilled to announce that KIGA will enter its second year and entries for KIGA 2015 are being called for - the entry form is available on the Fed Square website, using the following link:

This year there will be two prizes - AUD$15,000 for the winning entry and AUD$3,000 for the most innovative entry. Entries close on 18 February 2015 and the artists short listed will be notified by 27 February 2015. The exhibition will be launched on 1 June 2015 at Kirra Galleries in Federation Square.

SOFA Chicago 2014
Kirra Galleries exhibited for the 11th consecutive year at SOFA (Sculpture Objects Functional Art and Design) Chicago.
We represented the work of twelve Australian and New Zealand glass artists of whom nine artists travelled to Chicago to represent their work at this prestigious art fair. Opening night was on Thursday 6 November and during the four days of the fair more than 36,000 people attended the show which featured 70 galleries from 14 countries.
Our booth number was 101 and we were located at the main entrance - so all roads led to Kirra! We received many compliments on the quality of the work we represented and this was illustrated by the fact that we sold work from each of the artists on our booth, making the show one of the most successful in our 11 years.
Three of our artists also participated in VIP Conversations at the show - Scott Chaseling, Evelyn Dunstan and Ben Young - and were well attended by visitors to the show. Tim Shaw and Robert Wynne demonstrated their techniques at the Corning Mobile Glass Studio which is set up for the duration of the show and there can be up to 200 people viewing at any one time.
